Meet Alister

I’m Alister, founder and director of BeeMe Therapy. I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, with over 20 years of experience supporting children, young people and parents.

My career began in Manchester, UK, where I supported vulnerable young people who were homeless. Since moving to Australia in 2012, I’ve held a variety of roles in therapeutic foster care and community child and adolescent mental health services.

I specialise in supporting young people experiencing complex mental health difficulties, including trauma, anxiety, depression, psychosis, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I draw on a range of evidence-based therapies — including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Family Therapy — to guide young people and their families toward recovery and well-being. I can offer animal-assisted therapy and work alongside my two therapy dogs, who bring a calm, grounding presence to sessions.

As someone who is neurodivergent, I have a deep understanding of the challenges young people face around identity, self-understanding, and mental health. This perspective allows me to genuinely see, hear, and understand each young person and their family, and to tailor my approach to meet their unique needs.

My practice differs from many others in that I meet you where you’re most comfortable — whether that’s at home, school, or another space that feels safe for you. I work holistically and systemically, engaging with the environments and relationships that are most important in your life. My approach is to be open, honest, and non-judgemental. I believe in being transparent and authentic in everything I do. I bring my personality to my role and understand the importance of being approachable to build a strong relationship.

Outside of my role, I enjoy keeping fit and regularly attend the gym. My big passion is running, both road and trail, and I have completed a number of marathons. I also enjoy being in nature, travelling and exploring, both in Australia and overseas. Being from the UK I love football (soccer) and enjoy watching the EPL games on the TV.

If you think I might be the right fit for you or your family, I’d love to connect and talk about how I can support you.

The Hive and the Self: The Story behind BeeMe

Whilst based in Perth, Western Australia, our roots originate from Manchester (UK). The worker bee is more than just a motif of the city’s industrial past; it is a timeless symbol of resilience, community, and tireless dedication. Born during the industrial revolution to represent the hard work of Mancunians, the bee has since evolved into an emblem of unity—a reminder that while we are individuals, we possess immense strength when supported by a "hive."

At BeeMe Therapy, we embrace this heritage to frame the journey of mental health. Just as the worker bee is vital to the colony, we believe that the "work" you do on yourself is the most important labour of all. Therapy requires the same industry and bravery the symbol represents: the commitment to build, repair, and create a life of sweetness and substance, even after difficult times.

Our name reflects this dual purpose. It honours the collective strength of the bee while championing the ultimate goal of therapy: the freedom to simply be me. We provide a sanctuary where the noise of the world quiets, allowing you to rediscover your authentic self. Like the Manchester bee, BeeMe Therapy stands for the resilience of the human spirit—the belief that with the right support, every individual can find their wings, return to their true nature, and thrive.
